Ewan McGregor does not like autograph hunters. In fact, he has some very unkind words to say about fans who pester him for his signature. Well, actually, not real fans; he’s fond of real fans, but he has no time for the “parasitical lowlifes” who want an autograph only so they can sell it. Speaking to Details magazine about obsessive Star Wars fans, the actor said “I don’t have any experience with them. I’ve never been to one of the conventions,” before describing the people he does meet. “The people I meet are the f*ckers who want me to sign Star Wars photos so they can sell them on the Internet or the people at premieres who are crushing children against barriers to get me to sign their fucking picture of Obi-Wan Kenobi. They’re not fans—they’re parasitical lowlifes and f*cking w*nkers.”
It’s hard not to sympathize with McGregor. While ordinary fans line up for hours for a chance to meet their celebrity heroes, there will always be a market for people who trawl premieres solely to make a buck. Just in case you think McGregor is an a**hole, Mike the Fanboy has helpfully provided a link to an occasion when McGregor met and was lovely to some genuine fans.
