While on a hunting trip with his father, Gavin Dingman shot a rare albino deer with a crossbow. Gavin’s father, Mick Dingman, told WZZM 13 that he and his son had seen the deer several times in the past. “He kind of feels like a rock star right now,” said Mr. Dingman. “Everyone is calling, all of the hunting shows and hunting magazines.”
The story hit the local press – it’s deer season in Michigan, where hunting is an extremely popular pastime – but not everyone agrees that young Dingman should have taken a shot at a rare deer. “There are plenty of others out there,” reads one comment on the WZM 13 Facebook page. A report claims that “one out of 20,000 deer are born albino.” The Dingman family plans to pay a taxidermist to create a full body mount of the deer.
