He’s a tough competitor, one of the best in the world when it comes to looking other players in the eye, but poker legend Gus Hansen has lost nearly $20,000,000 playing online during his digital career, according to HighStakesDB, a site that tracks–you guessed it–high stakes gambling. He’s played about 1.5 million hands online. Hansen, a former competitive backgammon player and youth tennis champ who will gamble on most anything including his own boxing matches, is a constant source of volatile news for the site. He’s won just about every poker prize and has matched his prowess with some persistent losing streaks as well.
Online may not be Hansen’s bag, but put him at the tables and he’ll rake you. HighStakesDB also reports that Hansen–known as The Great Dane–just won $730,000 before lunch on August 28. He’s sponsored by Full Tilt Poker, an online poker room “conceived and designed by some of the world’s leading professional poker players.”
