Admirers and scholars of Anglo-European avant-garde and modernist magazines will be thrilled about Monoskop’s digitally archiving a range of journals from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Mostafa Heddaya, on hyperallergic.com, reported: “The decision to create the directory was motivated by the digital dereliction of some of these periodicals, which although digitized had languished in difficult-to-access corners of major institutional archives like the Bibliotheque Kandinsky at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the New York Public Library.”
Monoskop is making these obscure, often visually stunning, journals available in wiki format, including some original image files—resulting in “a reference guide” for “artists, writers and scholars alike.” (And people like me, who will vaporize hours on the site!) This rare material has up to now been accessible only to aggressive searchers and specialists.
