Lifetime will broadcast a biopic of Clueless actress Brittany Murphy on September 6, five years after her accidental death. Amanda Fuller (Grey’s Antamony, Last Man Standing) plays Murphy, and Sherilyn Fenn (Ray Donovan) plays Murphy’s mother/manager. No word of who will play Murphy’s co-star (in Just Married) and former boyfriend Ashton Kutcher in the two-hour television movie, The Brittany Murphy Story.
Lifetime said in a statement describing the project: “Her [Brittany’s] desperation for approval and insecurity about her looks makes her personal life a disaster. Unlike other stage moms, Sharon was always her daughter’s support system, but that enduring love wasn’t enough to save her sensitive Brittany from the vicissitudes of Hollywood life.” Murphy died in her Los Angeles home in 2009, at the age of 32. The coroner determined her death was caused by “community acquired pneumonia complicated by iron deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication.” Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, died five months later in the same house, also of acute pneumonia and severe anemia.
