Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban refuses to say, at least publicly, who’ll take the first snap of the Alabama season on Saturday, when the Tide faces West Virginia in Atlanta. Blake Sims is the senior and the likely favorite, but Florida State transfer Jacob Coker may make Sims old news fast in ‘Bama this season. One thing you hate to hear if, like Sims, you’re planning on starting at QB for your college team is that they just brought in a guy from Florida State.
Florida State and Alabama are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively in both the AP and USA Today preseason polls. How can a team be ranked No. 2 when no one even knows who’s doing the quarterbacking? Alabama’s that good. Asked about the brewing quarterback controversy–something Saban’s reluctance to speak publicly about only fuels–the coach said: “Both guys have performed well,” before adding that, “Blake has performed very, very well.”
