The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, announced that she is launching the Sarah Palin Channel. She describes it as a news channel “that really is a lot more than news.” She wants her subscribers ($9.95 per month or $99.95 per year, free for US service members) to “talk directly to me,” she said in a video that can be watched on the network’s website, which includes a clock counting down the days until President Obama is out of office.
The TV masterminds behind the Sarah Palin Channel are Jeff Gaspin, former Chairman of NBC Universal TV Entertainment and Jon Kelin, former CNN President. Together they launched Tapp earlier this year. The plan is to create a series of digital subscription channels like the Sarah Palin Channel built around celebrities. Among other investors, Tapp is backed by Google exec Eric Schmidt, and Discovery Communications which owns OWN – Oprah Winfrey Network.
