Captain Keith Colburn, star of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch, was named an ambassador for the nonprofit organization Seafood Nutrition Partnership (SNP). The self-styled “crab wizard” wants to use his lifetime at sea to promote the seafood nutritional value–and to protect the environment that sustains the seafood we need to keep ourselves healthy. “Seafood has meant everything to me,” says Colburn in a press release, “not just in my professional career but in my own day-to-day life.”
Colburn is one of the world’s most successful crabbers. He has used his fame to influence opinions before, notably when he testified before Congress last year about how the government shutdown impacted the all-important king-crab season. To Senator Jay Rockefeller and others, Colburn pleaded, “On behalf of all fishermen, I’m asking Congress to end the shutdown now. I’m a small businessman in a big ocean with big bills. I need to go fishing.”
