“Get a job.” It’s advice every struggling actor eventually hears–and now Penny on the Big Bang Theory is hearing it from series co-creator Chuck Lorre. Season 8 of TV’s most popular half-hour show will mean big changes for Cuoco’s Penny–she’s about to turn her Penny into dollars. As a pharmaceutical rep! (A lot of struggling actors in LA have boosted their livelihoods by selling drugs, but this is a new twist.)
We’ll miss Penny’s dreaming on (being) a star, but as Lorre told the Television Critics Association, Penny “is going to start making some money, which will unbalance [Penny and Leonard’s] relationship.” The change should be interesting. “She’s going to find some confidence and self-esteem, which acting does not provide in great heaping doses,” said Lorre. Which is historically true, unless you happen to get cast in a Chuck Lorre show–then you pretty much get famous and the “heaping doses” of confidence can turn into mountains of confidence. (Ask the “winning” Charlie Sheen!)
