To my (choose) VALENTINE | LOVE | HUSBAND | WIFE,
Sure it’s a made-up holiday, but aren’t they all? This one’s only different because you made it up for me. Before you there was Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July, sure, but there was no Valentine’s Day. Now there is. It’s today. Thanks. It’s dumb, but I kind of like it.
I don’t notice everything you do. I don’t usually notice the stars either–but I’d go crazy if they weren’t up there. I do remember the sky the FIRST | LAST time we MET | KISSED | LAUGHED TOGETHER. It was CLOUDY | PERFECTLY BLUE | RAINY | STARRY, but I didn’t care. All I cared about was the ground, because suddenly I felt more at home on it. I’m sorry I didn’t get you anything. I went into a couple of stores but they all seemed to be selling things for somebody else–for somebody on a TV commercial. So I thought I’d give you this note and a BACKRUB | NIGHT OUT | NIGHT IN. Something simple and perfect, like the way my heart feels when you SING IN THE CAR | BURN THE CARROTS | SHOVEL THE SNOW. Sound good?
All my love,
