In Melissa, Texas, a town of about 5000 people just north of Dallas, there are eight active churches and one evidently apostate former mayor. David Dorman, erstwhile hizzoner with local real estate interests, has been indicted for allegedly accepting down payment on a $70,000 bribe from a nearby developer.
Dorman was mayor of Melissa for nine years, during which time by his own account he did not make a nickel on real estate. Neither was he compensated for his altruistic community service: Mayor of Melissa was not a paid position. Even Mike Bloomberg makes a dollar.
