Syria’s embattled dictator Bashir al-Assad said today that he deeply regrets the downing by Syrian forces of a Turkish jet that strayed into Syrian airspace last week. In an interview with Turkey’s Cumhuriyet newspaper, he explained that he regrets “one-hundred percent” the incident, which caused the death of both pilots aboard.
He has not apologized for what the United Nations estimates are more than 10,000 civilians deaths since the start of the uprising against his regime last March.
