Police in New York City made 684,330 random “stop and frisks” last year. 87 percent of those stopped in 2011 were black or Latino. Both numbers are expected to rise this year.
Incidentally, The Color Purple is available at nearly every bookstore in New York, a city where Ladysmith Black Mambazo will give concerts on July 29 and July 30.
