The study has a 18-word title you could fall asleep pronouncing, but the news will wake you up screaming where’s the beef?!! Researchers have found that “diet does significantly affect sperm quality. Vegetarian and vegan diets were associated with much lower sperm counts than omnivorous diets. Although these people are not infertile, it is likely to play a factor in conception, particularly for couples who are trying to conceive naturally, the old-fashioned way.” Genes have a lot of jobs, but their chief job is to survive and be passed to a new generation. The study results show that vegetarianism decreases the opportunity for that critical function.
Vegetarians in the four-year study had 30% lower sperm concentrations and their sperm was weaker too. Active sperm is key to reproducting. Only 3o% of the vegetarians’ sperm was active. It was double that for the carnivores. A separate study showed that vegetarians also tended to consume more pesticides than meat-eaters. Pesticides are also bad for sperm.
