Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie continues to make good on his promise to distinguish himself from the other GOP candidates for president by his willingness to take on Donald Trump, the front runner in the race.
While other GOP hopefuls like Nikki Haley and even top Trump rival Ron DeSantis tiptoe around mention of Trump’s failures — his losing the Senate and the Presidency for starters — for fear of repelling Trump’s loyal base of MAGA faithful, Christie is taking dead aim.
Christie calls the former President names — a two way street, of course — and hammers Trump as a “loser” who “doesn’t give a damn about the American people.”
Making the interview circuit this weekend, Christie again knocked Trump. This time Christie called out his former ally for a bait-and-switch that, Christie says, the American people don’t deserve.
Trump often boasts about being a big seller — in the promotional sense — of American oil, claiming the U.S. became more energy independent during his presidency. And he has positioned himself as a big seller of American oil in the more literal sense too — Trump once considered selling half of America’s strategic petroleum reserves.
And while Christie agrees that Trump is a big-time oil salesman, he disagrees about the kind of oil he’s selling. Christie says Trump sells “snake oil” — not American crude or natural gas. (Christie says, in the interview below, that Trump has been selling the snake oil since 2016, when, notably, Christie was helping him.) “Americans are tired [of it],” Christie says now.
Christie captions his own sharing of the clip with: “Donald Trump is nothing more than a snake oil salesman.”

But we’ve seen his carnival act before, we’ve been behind the curtain. It’s all smoke and mirrors.
Don’t fall for it.

[NOTE: Trump, in line with Republicans like House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, has consistently portrayed the Biden administration as surrendering America’s oil edge and making the U.S. more dependent on foreign entities for its energy — despite the Wall Street Journal‘s assertion that Biden beats Trump on oil production. Other reports say Biden Administration Oil, Gas Drilling Approvals Outpace Trump’s.
The reality is a double-edge sword for the Biden campaign, offering blowback to GOP critics who say the administration doesn’t support American oil, while creating a vulnerability in Biden’s support among environmentalists.]
