California Congressman Ted Lieu congratulated his congressional colleague Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for putting into words what perhaps even President Joe Biden might not have the temerity to claim for himself: Greene asserts that Biden is the natural heir of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and that Biden wants to “finish what FDR started.”
Sharing the speech, Rep. Lieu, who routinely disagrees with Greene on most issues, finds common ground with Greene’s assessment.
[NOTE: FDR is regularly ranked #3 among Presidents in U.S. history, after Washington and Lincoln.]
Lieu also appreciates Greene’s rendition of how Biden’s accomplishments and career are similar in scope and ambition to that of President Lyndon B. Johnson, who is ranked 11th among Presidents on the list, just below Kennedy and Reagan.
Marjorie Taylor Greene thought her recent speech was an attack on @POTUS. It’s actually a huge compliment. She said @JoeBiden wants to finish “what FDR started” by supporting Medicare, rural poverty, and education.

Thank you @RepMTG!
More of this please. pic.twitter.com/DGKHnEaCmc
Wearing her glasses, Greene stands calmly at the lectern and reads from papers in her hand as though presenting her masters thesis on presidential history. Greene details LBJ’s history and the legislative accomplishments of “The Great Society” as if she had just speed-read Robert A. Caro.
Greene, of course, means to denigrate Biden by comparison. For Lieu, Greene presents as good a case as anybody for Biden 2024.
As Lieu interprets it, Greene’s thesis is a heartening distillation of Democratic values — and proof of the achievements of the Democratic vision when the executive office is emboldened and empowered.
“More of this,” Lieu says to Greene. The White House also replied to an account that posted Greene’s speech, saying with some snark: “Caught us. President Biden is working to make life easier for hardworking families.”
