Joanna Gaines and her husband Chip Gaines are TV personalities who became household names in 2013 when they launched their first reality TV series Fixer Upper on HGTV. The show, which was filmed near their home renovation and redecoration business, Magnolia Homes, in Waco, Texas, ran for five seasons (it ended in 2017).
In 2020, the show was revived as Fixer Upper: Welcome Home for the Gaines’ new channel on Discovery+, Magnolia Network.
While busy promoting her recently released cookbook, Magnolia Table, Volume 3: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering, Joanna took a break from her book tour to attend a black-tie event at the White House with her husband. Also in attendance was Angelina Jolie and her son, Maddox.
With the photos above, Joanna (who wore a stunning strapless gown) wrote: “What an honor it was to be a part of tonight’s State Dinner to celebrate the 70 year alliance between the United States of America and my mother’s home country of South Korea. Coming off the heels of our incredible trip to Seoul, this evening was another reminder of just how proud I am to be a Korean American.”
See photos and video below of the family trip to Korea.
In this day and age of politics seeping in everywhere, however, predictably the couple faced some backlash from MAGA-leaning fans for even going to an event hosted by Democrats.
Some of Gaines’ fans used her post as a chance to voice their opposition to the Biden administration and claim that they “Won’t be watching your shows anymore!!” They’ll boycott, apparently, simply because the couple attended the event hosted by President Biden (even though he is not mentioned nor featured in any of the photos).
Other fans are coming to the defense of Team Gaines: “State dinners are not political rallies. They are usually held to greet foreign dignitaries, etc. How very sad that people felt the need to stoop so low and try to demean what I’m sure was a lovely evening. How wonderful to be able to celebrate your mother’s heritage at such an event. You both look beautiful and handsome.”
