Representative Katie Porter (D-CA) doesn’t countenance false equivalence, and she let conservative British commentator Piers Morgan hear it after he compared the disruptive Tennessee 3 protests inside the State House to the riots that breached the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Sounding irate and appalled at the misleading tack Morgan had taken, Porter punctured his sails and called a virtual halt to the BS, as she sees it. “You’re not actually comparing… you actually did just compare…”
“What happened on January 6th was a bunch of batshit crazy *&^%s with guns who killed police people,” Porter said to Morgan. “That is not the same.”

People have lined up to cheer Porter on Twitter. The Congresswoman has been quick to gain fans with a take-no-prisoners speaking style that derives from a powerful belief in her purpose. It doesn’t hurt either that her knowledge on the issues is inferior to nobody’s.
A grad of Yale and Harvard Law, she’s been around powerbrokers since she came of age at the blue chip Phillips Academy-Andover preparatory school. Porter relishes a debate, possesses a silver if acid tongue, and seems tailor-made for the modern talk show format.
Politics and entertainment watcher Mike Sington places an adjective on Porter that she wears lightly, but brightly, writing: “The fabulous Katie Porter calls out Piers Morgan for comparing the Jan 6 US Capitol rioters to the expelled Tennessee legislators.”
Porter routinely calls out much of the GOP’s rally-round-the-base agenda, with a special focus on guns and reproductive rights. Porter also wants taxes simplified and aims to create rules that make sure Congress can make banks comply with safety measures before they have to bail them out.
Washington moved on from Silicon Valley Bank’s collapse without taking meaningful action, leaving the rest of us to worry which bank is next. 71% of Americans support my bill to restore critical guardrails. Congress should listen to the people. https://t.co/TjfqycPJ6P

But for all the vitriol she aims at debunking the more extreme GOP claims, Porter also works across the aisle, sponsoring legislation with GOP congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC).
When disaster strikes, families should be able to focus on rebuilding their lives, not worrying if their taxes will go up. I introduced a bipartisan bill with @RepNancyMace that delivers relief to disaster victims by making it easier to get the tax credits they’re counting on.

Back in 2021 Porter got paged by Mace after having wrongly claimed to be the only single mother in Congress. Mace said at the time, “Paging Rep. Porter, there are plenty of single moms in Congress. I’d be happy to introduce you.” That page apparently went well and produced legislation sponsored by the duo.
