Unlike the other members of former President Donald Trump‘s loyal family — especially his boisterously devoted sons Don, Jr. and Eric — Trump’s niece Mary is a Never Trumper.
The daughter of Trump’s late brother Fred, Mary Trump has taken her uncle to court (unsuccessfully) and otherwise nettled the former president whenever possible — not least with her book about him, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.
As news of Donald Trump’s indictment by a New York grand jury hit, Mary Trump made a joke, claimed the event as a long overdue win for justice, and knocked Mr. Trump’s defenders — especially the famous and powerful ones.
The joke? Ms. Trump tweeted: I think it’s time to say “Uncle.” On a night when everybody was talking about the former president, few could refer to him with such avuncular toxicity.
In a longer tweet, enumerating her uncle’s various claims to ignominy — the impeachments, etc. — Mary Trump claimed the media was missing an important element of the story. “For the victims of Donald,” she wrote, “this is finally some measure of justice.”

Trump’s niece also lit into her uncle’s de facto defenders, targeting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis‘s tweet that failed to even mention Donald Trump by name, but which managed to mention financier George Soros twice.
Reading DeSantis’s palaver about the “weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda” — from a man who wants it made illegal for kids to read certain books in Florida — Mary Trump commented “what a *&%* coward.”

Mary Trump doesn’t hope the “justice” ends here either, based on some of her previous tweets. There are at least five other pending investigations of Donald Trump, including an inquiry into his role in the January 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol.
Former VP Mike Pence has said that Trump will be held accountable for January 6, and Mary Trump expressed a cautious hope that Pence might be right.

At odds with others bearing the Trump surname, like his sons, Mary Trump is also now at odds with most of the political figures in the video below who have, despite their previous statements, rallied around the anti-indictment cause.
