Stu Holden transitioned from player to TV talking head very swiftly after injuries forced him to retire from the game in 2016. Holden’s reaction to the US Men’s National Team‘s loss to Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League shows why his vituperative style is perfect for these edgy times, when lashing out with criticism — the harsher, the better — is what gets you heard.
Holden says the USMNT “lost to Canada today for the first time in 34 years and quite frankly it wasn’t even close. That performance was an embarrassment for the US Men’s National Team, one of the worst I’ve seen in a while… Today was a new low.”
The 34-year-old Holden recorded three goals and 25 caps for the US team during his career. He is a co-owner of the Real Mallorca franchise in La Liga, the top level league in Spain.
