NBA legend Charles Barkley knows what time it is. That’s part of his charm. He doesn’t have that chip on his shoulder like some former players do — the idea that everything was better back in his day.
Nope, Barkley knows the NBA game is different now, and he’s quick to say modest things like how even in his prime he wasn’t “as explosive” as rookie Zion Williamson. That’s high praise from a Hall of Famer — especially for a rookie who hasn’t played a regular season NBA minute. (Barkley’s right; see below.)
But Barkley — who likes to “guaaarrranteee” predictions as part of his NBA analyst schtick — recently said he guarantees he could get “one point in an NBA game right now.” It’s classic Barkley: he doesn’t even say two points, just one.
Plus he knows his theory can’t be put to the test. Chuck isn’t subbing in for LeBron James anytime soon. Still his NBA on TNT family threw some shade at the big fella with this little video clip and the comment “Not so fast, Charles.”
And yet it’s true, what one astute fan with a long memory says in the comments: “Barkley is an old man tub of lard now but…. back in his prime, he was right up there with MJ.”
