The 20/20 episode “Sole Survivor” investigates the disappearance and murder of 19-year-old Lisa Stasi who, with her 4-month-old daughter, Tiffany, vanished in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1985. Fifteen years after their disappearance, serial killer John Robinson was charged with murdering ten women including Stasi.
At that time, Stasi’s 15-year-old daughter discovered that she had been adopted by Robinson’s brother Donald Robinson and sister-in-law who were “desperate for a baby.” The couple thought the adoption was legitimate (John provided fake documents) and renamed her Tiffany Heather.
20/20’s Amy Robach has an exclusive interview with Heather Tiffany Robinson which will air Friday, October 4. Robach says “Heather surprisingly wasn’t shocked to hear of John Robinson’s crimes. She says she always got an uneasy feeling from him growing up.” John Edward Robinson, who is now 75, sits on death row in Kansas.
In 2007, Heather Tiffany Robinson won a judgment in court that prevents John Robinson from profiting from any future potential book sales or film rights.
Jackson County Circuit Judge Thomas Clark announced the reported $5 billion judgment and said he suspected that John Robinson’s failure to “come clean and provide some closure” in the case (Stasi’s remains are unknown) was motivated by a desire to someday profit from his story.
Because Robinson first made contact with most of his post-1993 victims via on-line chat rooms, he is sometimes referred to as “the Internet’s first serial killer.” 20/20 airs Fridays at 9 pm on ABC. [BONUS: Stream any ABC show through the ABC GO Digital App found here. Download is FREE.]
