Oh the masterminds of the Internet who devise rumors — are they matched only by the masterminds in the San Antonio Spurs front office (R.C. Buford) and on the Spurs bench. That is, is hoops legend Gregg Popovich not just a basketball genius but a diabolical basketball genius?
Because rumor below, floated by some 76ers folks, posits that Kawhi Leonard returning to the Spurs. It’s unlikely, of course — unless like so much these days things aren’t as the seem on the surface. On the surface, Coach Popovich is disgruntled at Leonard for not returning to the Spurs. Also on the surface, Leonard’s trust in the Spurs was broken when they reportedly doubted the severity of his injury.
But what if things have mended a bit? Time heals most wounds, after all. This rumor says the Spurs get to keep all the talent they got from Toronto and then Kawhi comes back… He will be the most sought-after free agent since, well, since last year. (There’s always an attractive ball in the air: James, Durant, Leonard…)
The rumor is so juicy and delicious and very far-fetched. But the move would have NBA fans going crazy! And you know who likes it when NBA fans go crazy with enthusiasm and intrigue, interest and attention? The NBA does…
Plot twist:
What if Kawhi and Pop made an agreement on a rebuild strategy where they trade Kawhi for more talent & he just comes back the following year…
Kawhi, DeMar, LeMarcus and Dejounte would be pretty nasty….

Spurs point guard of the future(and now) Dejounte Murray is looking terrific coming off his season-obliterating ACL injury (see video below.) That makes the Spurs an immediate contender after a 2018-19 season where they exceeded expectations by continuing their customary presence in the playoffs.
#Spurs aren’t in the #NBAFinals but to see Dejounte Murray move like this 8 months after an ACL tear is promising for the future and straight
…can’t wait to see this young backcourt with DJ and Derrick mixed in with the vets…#KSATnews #Spurs pic.twitter.com/24VJtkYqTH
