Anthony Mackie is the multi-talented actor equally at home in the Marvel Comics Universe, in Academy Award-winning films like The Hurt Locker and on Broadway in serious dramas like August Wilson’s astonishing Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Fences and Jitney. The 40-year-old Louisiana native is also, apparently, like a standup comedian when he’s on set. On Shaquille O’Neal‘s always terrific podcast, the Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo didn’t hesitate for a moment when asked: “Who was the biggest clown on set [of Avengers: Endgame] of the actors?”
In harmony the Russos together answer: “Anthony Mackie. He’s hilarious… it’s like a stand-up comedy routine from the minute he shows up on set till when he leaves.”

Mackie has played so many diverse roles it’s hardly a surprise he sees the comedy in life. Here are just a few of the films he’s shined in. He played Eminem’s rival in 8 Mile. He played Tupac Shakur in Notorious. Mackie is, of course, Sam Wilson/Falcon in the MCU movies. Mackie also played Martin Luther King, Jr. in All The Way on HBO with Brian Cranston. But according to the Russo brothers, what Mackie really needs is his own HBO comedy special.
