In the Grey’s Anatomy episode “Good Shepherd,” neurosurgeon Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) travels to New York for business but ends up dealing with a lot of personal, family issues. Luckily, she’s traveling with Link (Chris Carmack), so when invited for dinner by her sisters Nancy Shepherd (Embeth Davidtz) and Kathleen (Amy Acker), she brings him along. The table turns on Amelia when her sisters serve dessert. Their mother Carolyn makes an appearance too. Note: The last time Carolyn appeared on Grey’s Anatomy was in the 2009 episode “Sympathy for the Devil“.
Then and now, Carolyn Shepherd is portrayed by Tyne Daly. She’s known for her TV roles on Murphy Brown (bar owner Phyllis), Judging Amy (Amy’s mom Maxine Gray), Cagney & Lacey (Mary Beth Lacey), and in films including Spider-Man: Homecoming (Anne Marie Hoag) and Clint Eastwood’s The Enforcer (Kate Moore), among many others. P.S. In real life, she and her little brother Tim Daly (Madam Secretary) still find time to perform on stage together (see below). Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 pm on ABC, right before Station 19.
