Portland Trail Blazers superstar guard Damian Lillard can make a real case that 2x NBA MVP Steph Curry shoots from way to close to the basket. Nobody else can make that case, since Curry routinely (and famously) fires shots from 30-plus-feet. But Lillard thinks that’s a layup, and in his deep deep deep game-winning dagger that sent the OKC Thunder home for the summer, Lillard fired from 37 feet. Clock running down, ball game tied up at 115. Boom.

OKC defender Paul George reportedly said afterwards that Lillard had taken a “bad shot.” It went in, George conceded, but George still took issue with the shot choice implying that it was a hero ball attempt and a low percentage effort. Lillard obviously beat the percentages. Plus, it’s not too tough of a shot because the game is tied. If the Blazers are down one, that’s a much harder shot to take.
Reporter Jared Crowley shared George’s comments afterwards about Lillard’s long 3-bomb: “That’s a bad shot. I don’t care what anybody says. That’s a bad shot. But hey, he made it. That story will be told. It was a bad shot. You live with that.”
Lillard replied to this assessment on Twitter with the only possible response: LOL, he wrote. Nuff said.
