In The Resident episode “Adverse Events,” the surgeons at Chastain are determined to shut down Quovadis after Henry Barnett (guest star Evan Whitten) almost loses his life due to a device malfunction. As Mina (Shaunette Renee Wilson) and Devon (Manish Dayal) set out to find the truth, Bell (Bruce Greenwood), AJ (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) and Conrad (Matt Czuchry) work to save the life of Chastain’s favorite custodian and longest serving employee, Simon Oritz. He was on the job when Bell did his residency. It’s Bell who suggested that Simon get looked at. During an EKG, AJ finds a myxoma growing on his heart which is blocking the blood flow. Simon’s on the brink of heart failure but it is operable.
[Watch Lauria as Toby’s dad on This Is Us]
Simon is portrayed by Dan Lauria. He’s known for his roles on This Is Us (Toby’s father), Shameless (Mo White), Pitch (Al Luongo), Sullivan & Son (Jack Sullivan), and The Wonder Years (Kevin’s dad Jack Arnold), among others. Fun fact: Lauria also played the janitor in the 1986 film 91/2 Weeks. The Resident airs Mondays at 8 pm on FOX.
