In The Goldbergs episode “The Beverly Goldberg Cookbook,” watching Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) and Adam (Sean Giambrone) team up to do a mother-son cooking show on public access television is reason enough to tune in. But the icing on the cake of this episode is watching Barry (Troy Gentile) try to get his chemistry teacher, Dr. Katman, to write him a college letter of recommendation. Murray (Jeff Garlin) steps in to help. (Fun fact: Fred Savage, The Grinder, The Wonder Years, directs.)
[Leonard Nimoy directed Three Men and a Baby]
Dr. Katman is portrayed by Steve Guttenberg. He’s well known for his roles in the films Three Men and a Baby (Michael), Cocoon (Jack Bonner), the Police Academy movies (Mahoney), Short Circuit (Newton Crosby), Diner (Eddie Simmons), The Boys from Brazil (Barry Kohler), and in that terrifying 1983 TV movie The Day After (Stephen Klein), among others. Guttenberg will appear next on the big screen in the film Roe v. Wade as pro-choice Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell, Jr. (Jon Voight, see below, is playing Justice Berger.) The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on ABC, right before its spin-off Schooled.
In Cocoon…
Also, talking of being transported back to my youth, I’ve just come across (ahem) this photo of Steve Guttenberg from the movie ‘Cocoon’. One of my first crushes. Can’t think why… pic.twitter.com/7rfJ4CHZYA
