US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris married California attorney Douglas Emhoff (DL Piper) in October 2014, the month she turned 50 (she’s now 54). Harris became stepmother to Emhoff’s two children: teenager Ella and college graduate Cole. Harris’ sister Maya Harris, who like Harris is a lawyer and also a former MSNBC political analyst, is married to Tony West, former U.S. Associate Attorney General during the Obama administration. They met at Stanford Law School.
In October 2017, West announced that he was leaving PepsiCo (as general counsel and president of PepsiCo Foundation) to take a position as General Counsel at Uber. This announcement followed the completion of an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination at Uber by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, West’s former boss at the Department of Justice. (West was reportedly one of the Top 5 candidates considered for Holder’s position when he resigned in 2015 — so was Kamala Harris. Loretta Lynch held the title until 2017; she was succeeded by the Trump administration’s Jeff Sessions.) In Tony West’s position as Chief Legal Officer at Uber, he leads a global team of 500. Maya Harris is currently serving as campaign chairwoman for her sister’s 2020 campaign for president.
Can confirm: they fell in love, got married, and I got a fabulous brother out of the deal! https://t.co/inl5tfKUMP
