Sonnet James is a line of playful dresses designed for mothers with young children. The comfortable and stylish dresses are the creation of Whitney Lundeen, a young playful mother from Palo Alto, California. Lundeen describes the need for Sonnet James like this: “If you’re a mom tired of yoga pants, then this is your new mom uniform.” Her machine washable dresses are made of “super soft, stretchy fabrics. Instead of silk-chiffon, lace or wool-crepe, they feel like pajamas, but will make you look and feel put together.” While wearing one of her Sonnet James print dresses (Coco – Floral, $138), Lundeen is pitching her clothing company on Shark Tank on January 20.
Lundeen has the advantage of pitching Sonnet James in front of guest Shark Sara Blakely, founder and CEO of Spanx, and mother of four children under 9! Unlike Blakely who is married to the father of her kids, Lundeen realized that her marriage was over around the time her second son was born. In July 2018, when asked to share pivotal choices in her life that led her to where she is today, Lundeen said, “Filing for divorce, starting Sonnet James, and the last 12 months have been very pivotal.”
The name of the company, btw, is a combination of the two names she had chosen for her sons if they have been girls. (Her boys are named Eero and Satchel.) New episodes of Shark Tank air Sundays at 9 pm on ABC.
