On the MacGyver episode “Guts + Fuel + Hope,” while Mac (Lucas Till) contemplates letting his father Oversight (Tate Donovan) back in his life, he also helps a distraught father in need. Vasil is the father of one of the children in a hospital who desperately needs oxygen. There’s only four hours left until the oxygen in the hospital runs out. There’s a tanker filled with liquid oxygen nearby but it must drive through a region occupied by rebels.
[Howell starred in The Outsiders with Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, et al]
The distraught father is portrayed by C. Thomas Howell. He’s known for his roles on SEAL Team (Clay’s father Ash Spencer), Ray Donovan (Ray’s doctor, Dr. Brogan), Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce (Nate), Grimm (Weston Steward), Criminal Minds (George Foyet aka The Reaper), and Southland (Officer Dewey Dudek), among others. Howell is also well-recognized for his roles in the 1980s films Soul Man (Mark Watson), The Hitcher (Jim Halsey), Red Dawn (Robert), The Outsiders (Ponyboy Curtis), and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (Tyler). MacGyver airs Fridays at 8pm on CBS, right before Hawaii Five-0.
