The new Bravo reality TV show Welcome to Waverly is shining its lights on life in small town U.S.A. The show puts metropolitan metrosexuals, who are accustomed to living in diverse populations, into an unfamiliar enviroment. Seven strangers from big cities live together in the small town of of Waverly, Kansas, population 563, where 99 percent of the residents are white heterosexuals. Each young professional spends six weeks working side-by-side with a Waverly resident in their respective industries. When a customer at the Waverly hair salon asks for a perm, gay celebrity hair stylist Zachary Morad — originally from Los Angeles — has to admit he’s never given anyone a perm.
Bravo says the LA native Zachary was “raised by an Arabic father” and moved to New York City when he was 18. Now Zachary works at the Warren Tricomi salon in the legendary Plaza Hotel. Here’s the twist: Zachary claims to be a “fiscally conservative registered Republican,” which will shock the hell out of his housemates. Can this young gay man afford to be a Republican — fiscally conservative or not — while the current administration is threatening his individual rights? Based on his Instagram posts, which criticize President Trump (see below), we wonder if Zachary is still holding on to his Republican Party card. Welcome to Waverly airs Mondays at 10 pm on Bravo, right after The Real Housewives of Orange County.
