On the Million Dollar Listing New York episode “Yippee Ki Yay!,” while Fredrick Eklund tries to impress his clients by selling a One West End apartment to movie star Bruce Willis, fellow real estate broker Steve Gold leaves the city to try to sell a 1837 country home in Roxbury, New York (population 2,502). It’s a charming (7,000 sq. ft.) but dated home on a piece of land half the size of Central Park (443 acres!). The 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom home is listed for $1.67 million.

It’d be easier for Steve, perhaps, if the property was listed about 115 miles southeast of Roxbury, New York — in Roxbury, Connecticut. (A lot closer to New York City.) Roxbury, CT has the kind of pedigree and celebrity cache many buyers appreciate. Playwright Arthur Miller and his wife Marilyn Monroe signed their marriage license at the town clerk’s office. The late author Frank McCourt, actor Walter Matthau and artist Alexander Calder once called Roxbury (Connecticut) home. Today, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Debbie Harry (Blondie) lives there in a 1795 farmhouse which she bought in 2016 for under $800,000. And that includes 3.5 acres!
But Steve’s listing is instead in also lovely Roxbury, NY — no slouch either in the famous name department, being the birthplace of naturalist John Burroughs and railroad financier Jay Gould. But it takes an hour longer to travel to Roxbury, NY from downtown Manhattan. Million Dollar Listing New York airs Tuesdays at 10pm on Bravo.
NOTE: an earlier version of this article conflated Roxbury, NY with Roxbury, CT.
