Gabby Barrett is still in high school but the 18-year-old from Pittsburgh, PA has been slaying on American Idol like a pro. As Idol judge Katy Perry told Gabby, “You went through the star wash.” Not only does Gabby look and sound like a pro, but she’s getting sassy for the finale when she sings Miranda Lambert’s hit “Little Red Wagon.” (see link below) The chorus is: “You can’t step to this backyard swagger/ You know it ain’t my fault when I’m walkin’ jaws droppin’ like/ Ooh, ah, ooh, ah.”
[“Little Red Wagon” is on Lambert’s Platinum album]
Fun facts: Oklahoma singer Audra Mae wrote and recorded the song first. The 34-year-old singer is the great-great-niece of Judy Garland, and a great granddaughter of Garland’s sister Jimmie. Mae has written songs for Christina Aguilera (“Fall in Line“), Kelly Clarkson (“Heartbeat Song“), and Celine Dion “Somebody Loves Somebody”), among others. The winner of American Idol will be revealed on Monday, May 21 on ABC.
