After taking a break in 2017, the TV talent show American Idol is back for its sixteenth season, this time on ABC. (It was originally on Fox.) Host Ryan Seacrest is back with a new panel of judges — Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan. They are replacing Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick, Jr., and Keith Urban. It seems like years ago because it was! To refresh your memory, the last winner of American Idol was Trent Harmon. (He beat soul singer La’Porsha Renae who guest judge Kelly Clarkson predicted would win.) On Idol, Harmon was known to make “weird faces” when he sang but toward the end of the show he was coached to suppress those facial expressions. That was in April 2016 — a lot has happened since then.

After winning the title of American Idol, receiving a Ford car and a recording contract with Big Machine Records, Harmon released the eponymous EP Trent Harmon (see link above) in December 2016. It includes five singles including his winner’s song “Falling” which he performed on Idol. (It was written by Idol judge Keith Urban, David Davidson and Brett James.) The EP also includes “There’s a Girl,” see music video below. American Idol airs Sundays at 8pm on ABC.
