In the Criminal Minds episode “Submerged,” the BAU team is called in when a series of backyard pool homicides are reported in California. While searching for an UnSub with a puzzling past, they meet Sheriff Clifford. He tells Prentiss (Paget Brewster) that there has also been an increase in burglaries. He believes “on account of the drought.” He explains the local economy, which relies on tourists going boating and fishing, has taken a big hit.
Sheriff Clifford is portrayed by Lou Diamond Phillips. He’s known for his roles on Hawaii Five-0 (US Marshal Lincoln), Longmire (Henry Standing Bear), Numb3rs (Agent Ian Edgerton), and SGU Stargate Universe (Colonel David Telford), among others. Phillips is also well recognized for his roles in the films La Bamba, Stand and Deliver, Courage Under Fire (see link above), and Young Guns. Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays at 10pm on CBS.
