It’s heartwarming to see that Sarah Jessica Parker still follows Mr. Big. Or at least it’s fun to think so since among the 400-plus Instagram accounts SJP follows is listed @chrisnothofficial. The Sex and the City superstar follows a bunch of people you might suspect, from journalist Ronan Farrow and the great Molly Shannon (@theofficialsuperstar) to Anderson Cooper, Michelle Obama, Amy Schumer and Kim Cattrall. (Oh, and Elton John and Bloomingdales, let’s not forget.)
But while SJP is a bona fide fighter for the cause of equality in Hollywood and elsewhere, she will probably want to take another look at (and maybe update) who she’s following on Instagram. Parker is a food fan, and chef David Chang makes her list. But Mario Batali is also there among Parker’s chosen few, and Batali seems — at the very least — out of place on SJP’s list given recent allegations about his conduct. It’s especially notable since Parker is vigorously using her Instagram platform (4 million followers) to promote the Time’s Up movement/initiative (see below), which vows to help rid Hollywood — and the rest of society — of predatory men in powerful positions. Then again, SJP’s following of Batali shows just how difficult and fraught these times are. She’s a loyal person by all accounts, and Batali hasn’t been proven to have done anything illegal. What’s a feminist icon to do? Parker will talk with Stephen Colbert about Time’s Up and other subjects on January 10. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 on CBS.
