American Horror Story: Cult opens on the night of the 2016 American presidential election. Like millions of Americans watching the results on TV, Ally Mayfair-Richards (Sarah Paulson) is in shock and distressed by the news. Sure she has her younger wife Ivy Mayfair-Richards by her side to comfort her, but the election has made Ally’s coulrophobia (fear of clowns) worse.

Ivy Mayfair-Richards is portrayed by the 31-year-old actress Alison Pill. (Paulson is 42.) Pill is known for her roles on ABC’s The Family (Willa Warren), HBO’s The Newsroom (Maggie Jordan), HBO’s In Treatment, The Book of Daniel (Grace Webster), and in the films Miss Sloane (Jane Molloy), Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Kim Pine), Milk (Anne Kronenberg), and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris (Zelda Fitzgerald), among others. P.S. Pill is married to The Blair Witch Project‘s Joshua Leonard — they just had a baby together (cute photos below). American Horror Story: Cult premieres Tuesday, September 5 at 10pm on FX.
