Chase Goehring is the 21-year-old singer and songwriter from Tennessee competing on America’s Got Talent, Season 12. For his audition, Chase performed an original song he wrote called “Hurt.” It’s about a friend who’s in a relationship with the wrong guy and he thinks he’s the right guy for her.

On the AGT stage, Goehring closed his eyes and strummed his acoustic guitar as he sang a slow Ed Sheeran-like ballad. And then, in the middle, he broke out into a rap. He brought it back seamlessly to the slower refrain “I know you’ve been hurt by the way he talks to you.” All four judges stood to give him a standing ovation. Howie Mandel said “This is a very unique sound that I will never forget.” Simon said with a great big smile, “It was bloody fantastic” and thanked Goehring for coming on the show. Chase’s song “Hurt” is from his four-track EP Jaded. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
