The ESPN series Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL profiles a series of big name prospects expected to make a splash in their NFL debuts. The drama is provided by the great uncertainty of NFL success. Sure bets often fail to make it, while surprise stars emerge from unlikely places to find glory. All of ESPN’s Hey Rookie choices are top tier and they should have impact — but what actually happens is part of the reason we watch the game. One of those profiled on Hey Rookie is North Carolina alum Mitchell Trubisky — is Trubisky destined for the Hall of Fame or a flameout at the next level?
The smart money says Trubisky is destined for a long pro career. NFL draft analyst Chad Reuter predicts Trubisky as the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft — selected by the Cleveland Browns. Others have the talented quarterback hanging around till the middle of the first round. Consensus — or near consensus anyway — says that wherever he goes, Trubisky will be one of the first two quarterbacks chosen, perhaps after Clemson’s DeShaun Watson. Trubisky is a former Mr. Football Ohio who could be seen as a Browns savior at #1. The NFL characterizes Trubisky as a “dual threat” which, despite the continued success of Tom Brady, seems to be the future mold for NFL quarterbacks. At 6’2″ Trubisky throws with “crisp and efficient delivery” and has “speed to damage the defense once he leaves the pocket.” Hey Rookie, Welcome to the NFL airs Tuesdays at 9:30pm on ESPN.
