Kawan DeBose is the 30-year-old singer from Miami, Florida who wows everyone during his Blind Audition on The Voice, Season 11. He sings the Marvin Gaye classic, “Let’s Get It On,” and has Adam Levine on his feet giving a very persuasive pitch including a comparison to Prince.

Before Kawan picks his coach, Gwen Stefani asks the question ‘How did you get here?’ and Kawan gives a modest answer about singing since he was 10 and making a living by performing at hotels and restaurants. But during a 2014 TV interview on the Miami NBC talk show ‘6 In the Mix’, Kawan talks about his experience opening for acts including John Legend and Mary J. Blige. Kawan says opening for such big names in the industry teaches you “how to conduct yourself professionally, and you learn how great a band is supposed to be, and learn how to interact with your audience. It makes you become a better artist, a better performer.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
