Daily Show host Trevor Noah posited that Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway has a big “tell” when she delivers a whopper. Noah says Conway’s tell is a hair-touch-flip “it’s all good” gesture she uses right after she mentions something like, you know, “alternative facts.” (A tell, of course, is poker lingo for something a player does that tells the other players information about their hand — also known as a “dead giveaway.”)
But does Conway, who makes an effort to play it cool and remain unfazed by criticism, really have a tell when she skates over the thinner ice of the pond? Most prevaricators have one or more, as poker experts, CIA agents and private detectives will attest. (Donald Rumsfeld‘s tell seemed to be a grin.) Noah may be on to something with Conway — but all tells are in the eyes of the beholder.
