Tireless populist firebrand Bernie Sanders has written a new book called Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In. Despite Donald Trump’s presidential election win — or perhaps especially because of it — the Vermont senator is doubling down on selling his belief in an American future dominated by progressive causes. Trump not only lost the popular vote, Sanders reminds his crowds, but US citizens in polls have shown a strong predilection for progressive policies. Sanders has pledged to work with Trump wherever Trump remains true to his campaign promises to deliver benefits to working class Americans, promises Trump has made consistently. If Trump has a plausible plan to return jobs to the US, for example, Sanders has vowed to support the President-elect.
But speaking at Berkeley this week during a book promotion / political rally, Sanders enumerated the zones where no compromise is possible. “No compromise with bigotry,” Sanders told the crowd. “No compromise. No compromise with racism, sexism, with homophobia, xenophobia.” Interestingly, Sanders’ book is the #1 bestseller at Amazon in a category called Political Conservatism & Liberalism, which also includes books by Glenn Beck and Ann Coulter.
