Former MythBusters co-host Adam Savage is currently (and cheerfully) unemployed — but that doesn’t mean he isn’t working on several projects. Right now most of his time and energy are spent on the website Tested.com, which covers “breakthroughs in science, amazing tales of exploration, and discoveries in nature to emerging technologies and new consumer products that promise to change our everyday lives.” The loquacious experimenter recently sat down with the editor-in-chief of CNET, Connie Guglielmo.
When asked about critical thinking, Savage referred to a fan letter that submitted the myth that “the air encompassing the Eiffel Tower weighs more than the Eiffel Tower itself.” Didn’t sound right to him, but — as Adam Savage does — he checked it out. His first try was wrong, but he kept thinking about it, ultimately reworking his original idea to discover that the air does weigh more than the tower. “That’s critical thinking, and that’s sorely needed in this country.” The full CNET interview with Savage, “Don’t Let Science Scare You” is in the summer issue of CNET magazine.
