Pavlok is a self-zapping wristband designed to be worn by people who want to quit smoking, quit biting their nails, or quit eating junk food, among other bad habits. The wristband “vibrates, beeps and releases an electric stimulus (340 volts!) that ranges from pleasant to aversive. Simply press the button when you feel a craving,” says the website. Users can program the Pavlok to go off automatically (set by smart phone), but the most effective use case is manual. If only cigarette smoker Dick Morrison (James Woods) had a Pavlok before signing up for Quitters, Inc. in the 1985 Stephen King movie Cat’s Eye! (See below.)
Pavlok wristbands sell for $179 each and are available in black, blue, white, pink, and red. The website says the product is currently backordered but will resume shipping on June 1. Pavlok will be pitched on Shark Tank (May 20) which airs Fridays at 9pm on ABC.
