Borussia Dortmund against Liverpool is being called “El Kloppico.” The appellation is a mashup of the great Spanish rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona (“El Clasico“) and the name of Dortmund manager — no, wait — the Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. Klopp won two Bundesliga titles at the helm of Borussia Dortmund before leaving last summer to take charge of Liverpool in the Premier League.
It’s Klopp’s first journey on the Liverpool side back to Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, which can accommodate more than 80,000 fans. The Germans are clearly excited by Klopp’s return, so much so that one TV network had planned to feature a “Klopp cam” which would have followed Klopp following the action. (Reality TV gets ever stranger.) That idea was ditched. But viewers will doubtless see plenty of Klopp during El Kloppico.
