The NFL’s best player J.J. Watt scared Houston Texans fans and thrilled the other 31 NFL teams with talk of leaving the game. Watt took to Twitter quickly afterwards to reverse the equation, saying the media got it wrong. And after Watt’s clarifying tweet, Texans fans are thrilled again and the other 31 teams realize they’ll have to wait longer before the best defensive player in the league no longer plays in Houston.
Giving an interview on Houston’s SportsRadio, Watt said: “I know I don’t plan on playing the game as long as I possibly can. It’s not going to be terribly longer but I am going to play as long as I can enjoy it and have fun.” Not going to be terribly longer? That’s where the panic set in. What do you mean J.J.? Fortunately that’s exactly what a Texans fan named Nicole asked Watt on Twitter. Watt responded with the regulation bite: the comment was taken out of context, he didn’t mean it the way it sounded, slow news day. But he did say “it’s not going to be terribly longer” and it still gives all those other teams a glimmer of hope. Then again Watt is just 27 and under contract through 2021. Everybody’s “terribly longer” is different.
Offseason, slow news day, words taken out of context. Listen to the interview if you’d like the real scoop Nicole. https://t.co/ctdP22eSVd
