Tampa couple David and Nique Mealey of Tampa, Florida pitched their barbeque chicken wing dip on Shark Tank in 2012. It was an emotional pitch. David was unemployed, Nique was pregnant. The likable couple made a deal with investors Lori Greiner and Robert Herjavec for $150,000 for 25 percent equity.

After Shark Tank, the distribution of Back 9 Chicken Dips expanded including a deal with Costco. However, one year later more than 112,000 pounds of their Buffalo Blue Cheese Chicken Dip was recalled by USDA due to the anchovies in the dip. The company folded. According to OfftheWeeds, Nique went on to become Director of Marketing for Melting Pot, a subsidiary of Front Burner Brands, and David became President of Myself to Shelf, a food brokerage company.
