Ex- Toronto Mayor Rob Ford never seemed long for this world, but he exuded plenty of (sometimes misguided) passion while in it. Now as the late ex-Mayor of Toronto leaves this mortal coil at the age of 46, the jokes have stopped. Even the jokesters have turned to eulogy for a man who was as charismatic as they come, even if the charisma bought him a license (so he thought) to act irresponsibly.
Made famous after being caught on camera smoking crack while mayor, the big, gregarious, equivocating Ford — who battled drug and alcohol addictions — became fodder for late night talk shows and Internet memes. But with his passing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote: “Rob Ford fought cancer with courage and determination. My condolences and best wishes to the Ford family today.” But it was comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who clearly had affection for Ford, who made the perfect eulogy for a political man who died before his second act was ready:
Condolences to the family and fans of @TorontoRobFord – an unforgettable guy who loved his job and city like few men I’ve met.
