Purdue head coach Matt Painter must have some extra pull when it comes to Big Ten Tournament seeding. Maybe it comes from being a former Big Ten player. Otherwise how do you explain Purdue nabbing the #4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament over the Iowa Hawkeyes? Both teams are 12-6 in Big Ten play and the Boilermakers lost to Iowa twice in the regular season by a total of 19 points.
The top four seeds get double-byes and don’t play until Friday — the Big Ten Tournament starts on Wednesday. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery played most of his college ball at the University of Pennsylvania in the Ivy League, transferring from Wake Forest and the ACC. His Hawkeyes may appreciate the extra games — and the chip the tournament seeding just put on their broad shoulders.
